IN A 2ND DECISION IN ONE WEEK
HUDSON COUNTY CRASHES AND BURNS AGAIN

 

In a 2nd decision released on March 7, 2017, Arbitrator James Cooney lowers the boom on the County.  This time over PBA Release Time.  The County decided it was prudent to pay an Arbitrator $3,252.22 of tax payer's monies, pay a County Attorney for 2 days to attend the trial, and pay the Supervisors to avoid paying a 4 hour overtime slip, (less than $400).  This is the ego driven Law Department that refuses to follow the rules, because they can. After all it is not their money they are pissing away.  That $400 loss had to run the County some where in the area of $10,000.

It use to be that PBA Presidents received flex time to avoid paying them overtime.  Currently Board Members attend all the meetings for the PBA without compensation.  Board Members are not paid when they attend meetings.  WELL GANG - SUBMIT THOSE OVERTIME SLIPS!  I'm sure James filed a grievance on everyone's behalf. (NOT)  

This is an extension of the PBA Release Time grievance which was won and is reportedly under appeal with the Appellate Division.  In this Arbitration, the County refused to pay PBA President Rosario for 4 hours of overtime for attending a disciplinary hearing.

Arbitrator James Cooney found:


As a direct consequence of the County's contractual violation, Grievant was required to show up on his own time to provide Union representation as PBA President at the April 30, 2014 disciplinary hearing.  The County contends that, notwithstanding a violation, the Arbitrator cannot fashion a remedy of awarding compensation since the Agreement does not provide for payment of compensation to a PBA President for performing Union business.  I find the County's proposition to be untenable, since if adopted, it would allow the County to violate the Agreement without any consequential or effective remedy.

Therefore, I will direct as a remedy that the County, within (30) days from the date of my Award, compensate Grievant for  four (4) hours of overtime compensation for his attendance at the April 30, 2014 disciplinary hearing as PBA President.

AS IT PERTAINS TO A RECENT PROBLEM WITH A UNION BOARD MEMBER POSTING FALSE MEMOS
 EdPDLaw EXAMINES THE DANGERS OF ELECTING AN ASS KISSER TO SERVE ON THE UNION BOARD

 

In response to a Board Member posting knowingly false information throughout the jail with purpose to injure another Board Member, this article addresses the very real problems that all Unions face with disharmony in the Union Board. Their is usually an Administrator behind these efforts who attempts to gain control of the Union and sabotage the Union's efforts moving forward.

THE ASS KISSER

We all have them, we all recognize them, and we are all annoyed by them.  

DEFINITION OF ASS KISSER

"A person who sucks up to people in a position of authority in order to get some kind of reward or perk."

"A suck up, someone who will kiss someone's butt to gain points.  These folks will use what you tell them, or do, against you for their own personal gain. "

"A lowlife person willing to use other people as their targets for advancement in their organization or on the job.  They normally have a nervousness about them, constantly moving their leg, and/or always talk non-stop.  Ass Kissers like to take gifts to their superiors.  They also tell on their fellow employees and, if they have nothing to tell, they will just lie to have a story".

PATHOLOGICAL LIARS

The advanced ass kisser.  Someone who has been kissing ass for an extended period of time.  These individuals believe their own lies, and can spit out a lie without a second thought.  They pile one lie on top of another.  There are many types of pathological liars.  There are those that lie to protect themselves and hide their deficiencies.  Then there are those that lie as part of their ass kissing, to hurt others and gain a favor or perks for themselves.

THE MOLE

Someone who is part of the Union but is reporting back to the Administration the contents of Union meetings.  This person is counterproductive to Union activities, and is rewarded with easy assignments, an unlimited amount of overtime, and having the Administration look the other way on any infraction or policy violations.

THE BACKSTABBER

This is the one that is nice to you to your face, then runs to the Administration with lies to hurt your credibility with the purpose of removing you from your position so that they can slip in. Some examples might be:  Telling your supervisor that you are at home when you should be at a meeting or class.  

THE FOLLOWERS

For some unknown reason, every ass kissing, pathological lying, backstabbing, mole has a small entourage of uneducated followers.  This may be a group of newly hired officers who mistakenly believe that the ass kisser achieved recognition through hard work and respectable means.  Unfortunately, it is not until a follower is thrown under the bus that they truly see the ass kisser for what he truly is and most times it is too late.

You will recognize them as being very LOUD and vocal, always complaining about things but never offering any solutions or lending a helping hand.

"The PBA better do something!"

THE ARSONIST

This is the officer or Administrator that sets the fire, starts the trouble, so that he can run in and be the hero by extinguishing it. This usually is a supervisor, the one that is getting his ass kissed.  An advanced arsonist is difficult to spot.  This is the person you confided in or turned to in your time of need.  Shortly after confiding in him, the information that you supplied to him "somehow" gets out.  Then this person rushes in and saves the day.  This is how a Follower is cultivated and manipulated into a Kiss Ass.

EVERY UNION HAS THEM AND NO UNION WANTS THEM, THEY ARE A CANCER TO THE UNION

HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE THEM?  

An Ass Kisser is easy to spot, he is the one that is always bringing coffee to the supervisor, always in the supervisor's office, always siding with a supervisor against a Union member.  Always preaching or explaining a supervisor's point of view.  He is clearly receiving favors from the supervisor, a choice assignment, unlimited overtime, the ability to call off sick without repercussion or violate other Policy.  He is foolish, has no self-respect and no respect for his followers, he will throw them under the bus to get ahead.  He is a practicing arsonist, he tries to gain your trust so he can deceive you. He may be the one who takes the Administrator's daughter to an event, or drives an administrator to a court proceeding.

THE PATHOLOGICAL LIAR TEST  

It is suggested that to catch a Pathological Liar that you conduct a simple non-scientific experiment.  After knowing the truth ahead of time, engage the pathological liar to see what he or she may say.  Make the pathological liar believe that he or she has your belief because it may take a few of these experiments to see if a person is lying to simply hide an embarrassment or is willing to lie enough to actually cause damage. 

It's important to note that medical professionals have connected pathological lying to other forms of dishonesty such as stealing or simply helping themselves to things, which oddly enough are readily available to them anyway, but for some reason believe its ok to take advantage.

 The Pathological Liar when un-confronted and wrongly led to believe that his or her lies are being accepted by those around them as truth or as an answer to a problem, the pathological liar begins to see himself as a role model or authority figure.

In actuality, the pathological liar is being laughed at mostly, but due to the fact that he or she is not being confronted, severe damage can occur to the people involved as a "group" or in a "common place shared" by the people in question.
